Set up and use your EE Rapid Connectivity Case
Initial set up
- Remove the case from its delivery packaging, and check if all expected contents have been included.
- Inspect it carefully and note any damage that may have occurred during transit.
Please report any damage, missing parts or problems with connectivity to our EE Connected Business team by calling 0800 043 0184.
- Now, switch the case on by pressing the power button. The light will go blue when the unit has enough power to switch on.
Even if you don’t intend to use the case immediately, we recommend switching it on to ensure it connects to the EE network. It can take up to 5 minutes for the case to connect to the internet and be ready to use.
How to charge your EE Rapid Connectivity Case
- First, open the PWR cap on the back of the case by twisting it half a turn anticlockwise, then pull it towards you. This will expose a USB-C port.
- Then, plug the USB-C charger into the port and switch the mains power on. It should now be charging.
Note: the case is not watertight when its being charged.
When you’ve finished charging it
- Remove the USB-C charger.
- Put the cap back over the port and gently push it in, then twist it clockwise until its secure.
The case should now be watertight again.
Do I need to fully charge the case to use it?
No – if the power bar shows more than 0% charge, the case will run on the battery when you’ve not got the charger connected. Just note that you will get maximum use from it when it’s 100% charged. Learn more about the battery below.
Key information about the battery
- The battery will power the router on a cellular connection for 6 to 10 hours, depending on usage and signal levels.
- A 1-hour charge will charge the battery to around 50%, which should run the router for around 3 to 4 hours.
- A full charge will take around 3 or 4 hours.
- The power button only turns off the router. This means even with the router switched off, the case systems are still running so the battery will need charging every 2 weeks.
- The case needs a 100w (or higher) USB-C charger as it will not charge from power supplies with a lower wattage, so please always use the charger which comes with the case. If this is lost or damaged, report this to our Connected Business support team by calling them on 0800 079 0119, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00
- No roaming is available with this service, so it will not work abroad.
To check the battery level
Press the button on the right side of the power bar. The screen will light up and begin a test, cycling through charge level and voltage. This takes around 10 seconds.
Note that:
- During charging, the level may rise during the test.
- During use, it may fall during the test.
Once the number stabilises, this means the test is complete. The number shown is the current battery level.
Using the LAN and WAN ports
You can connect LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) cables to your EE Rapid Connectivity Case via the LAN and WAN ports.
What the WAN port is for
The WAN port lets you connect the case to external internet networks, such as the Starlink Mini. If you’re only using our built-in EE cellular network, you won’t need to use this port.
What the LAN port is for
The LAN port lets you connect devices directly to the case using a wired connection. Most of the time, you can simply connect to the case via Wi-Fi. However, if your device needs a stable wired connection, you can plug it into the LAN port instead.
To connect a LAN or WAN cable to the case
- Twist the cap a quarter turn anticlockwise, and pull it out once its loose. This will expose the port.
- Push the cable into the exposed LAN or WAN port.
Note: the case is not watertight while a LAN or WAN cable is connected.
When you’ve finished with the LAN or WAN cable
- Remove the cable.
- Put the cap back over the port and gently push it in, then twist it clockwise until its secure.
The case should now be watertight again.
Lights on the EE Rapid Connectivity Case router
You will find four lights on the router – the power, cloud, modem, and signal strength lights. Learn about them below.
For more information about the different lights and what they mean, check out the Understanding LEDs guide on the Enterprise Wireless Documentation Portal.
Power
- Should always be white and solid when the router is powered on.
- When powering up, only the power light will be on for the first few minutes (until there is an active internet connection).
Cloud (internet connection)
- If it's white, the router is connected to the internet. When first turned on it can take up to 5 minuets for the internet to be ready to use.
- If it's not lit up, it means there’s no internet connection.
Modem
This light indicates information about the integrated modem. Do not worry about this light.
Signal strength
Light | Status |
No light | No signal |
Solid green light | Signal is excellent or good |
Solid yellow light | Signal is fair |
Solid red light | Signal is poor |
If:
- Your signal strength lights are red or not lit up
- And you’re using our built-in EE cellular network and not getting a signal
Try moving the case to a location with better EE coverage.
Wi-Fi information
The case will provide the Wi-Fi connection, whether you’re connected to our EE cellular network or the Starlink Mini. The router in the case provides 2.4ghz, 5ghz and Wi-Fi 6 for up to a 100-metre radius in open space.
The SSID (network name) and password are noted on the instructions inside the case.
Want to change your Wi-Fi details?
You can request to change your Wi-Fi SSID and password to something else by calling our Connected Business support team on 0800 079 0119, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00.
Note: you can only change your Wi-Fi details once.
Important things to know
System updates for the EE Rapid Connectivity Case
The router in the case will regularly receive updates to make sure its secure and working as it should.
Because of this, we strongly recommend you keep the case charged and leave the power on for at least 1 hour every 2 weeks, even when you’re not using it.
This will also keep the battery and router in optimum readiness.
Ports for cables
If you need to connect any cables to the case, all ports can be found on the back.
Keeping your case dust-tight and watertight
The case is only IP67 rated (dust-tight and watertight) when you close the caps correctly, and the lid of the case is closed and latched.
If we’ve also provided you with LEO satellite equipment (Starlink Mini)
EE can provide LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellite equipment to deliver internet connectivity in areas without EE coverage, or where the EE network is experiencing congestion.
If you requested this service, your order will include a Starlink Mini device.
What’s included?
- 1 x Starpax rugged carry case
- 1 x Starlink Mini antenna
- 1 x 15m power cable
- 1 x 15m WAN cable
How to connect the Starlink Mini to your EE Rapid Connectivity Case
To connect the Starlink Mini to the EE Rapid Connectivity Case, you must:
- Link the Mini to the case’s S-LNK port using the Starlink Mini power cable
- Link the Mini to the case’s WAN port using the grey WAN cable
All of these ports can be found on the back of the EE Rapid Connectivity Case.
Note: the EE Rapid Connectivity case MUST also be connected to mains power for the Starlink Mini to work.
The S-LINK plug
The S-LINK cable pulls out towards you – to put it back, simply push it back into the port in the case.
Power
The power light will be white.
Cloud (internet connection)
The cloud light will be white.
Modem
The modem light will be yellow.
Signal strength
Ignore this light – it doesn’t matter as you’re using the Starlink Mini, not the EE cellular network.
How to optimise your Starlink Mini’s performance
- You must use the Starlink Mini outdoors, otherwise it will not work.
- It works best when pointed southwest with a clear sky view and a 20° tilt (provided by the kick bracket), but it can still operate with limited performance if not positioned this way.
- Obstructions may reduce speed and increase latency.
- If its performance drops, try reorienting the antenna southwest and adjusting to the 20° tilt.
The light on your Starlink Mini
The Starlink Mini has one light, which can be found on the back of it in the bottom left corner. Find out what the different light colours mean.
No light – no power is reaching the Starlink Mini. Check the power source, connections, and that the power supply is turned on.
Solid blue light – the power is on, and the Starlink Mini is connected to the Starlink network.
Blinking blue light – the Starlink Mini is attempting to connect to the Starlink network or may indicate an issue. Check the Starlink app for any alerts or error messages.
Solid red light – indicates an incompatible USB-C power source (20V/5A needed).
Flashing red light – incorrect usage, such as trying to use the power supply to charge other USB-C devices.
Fast blinking for 3 seconds – the Mini is rebooting after a factory reset.
Important things to know
System updates for the Starlink Mini
The Starlink Mini will receive updates to make sure its secure and working as it should. We strongly recommend that even when not in use, the Starlink Mini is left setup outside and powered on for at least 1 hour every 2 weeks to keep it in optimum readiness.
Troubleshooting the Starlink Mini
- On the Starlink Mini, check all cable connections and the status light on the back of the antenna.
- When the Starlink is connected to the WAN and the router has a working connection, the modem light will be yellow when the router is connected over the SIM card and has a working connection the light will be green.
