TRANSFER YOUR CONTACTS

When you get a new phone one of the biggest headaches is how to transfer your contacts from your old phone. To make it easier, we've created guides that cover how to copy your contacts on your old phone and make them available on your new one.

Transferring contacts to an Apple device

You can transfer information from your current device to your new iPhone 5, even if you're coming to Apple from Android, BlackBerry or Windows.

Follow these steps below to back up your messages, email accounts, photos, notes, and other personal settings, and restore the backup to your iPhone 5.

1. Use the PC software for your current device to copy your content to your PC. The manufacturer's website should help if you need it.
2. Backup your contacts and calendar appointments to a Google account or Hotmail or Exchange for business.
3. Insert your new 4G SIM card that you've registered with EE into your iPhone 5.
4. Download the latest version of iTunes to your PC from apple.com/itunes.
5. Turn on your new iPhone 5 and complete the setup by selecting your language and country, and choose whether to enable Location Services.
6. When asked, choose your WiFi network. If you don't have a WiFi connection, you can tap Connect to iTunes.
7. When prompted to set up your device, select Restore from iTunes Backup.
8. Connect your new iPhone 5 to iTunes (on the same computer you used to back up your old device). iTunes will ask you to restore from backup or set up as new. Select the backup of your old device and choose Continue.
9. Find out how to add your Gmail or hotmail account to your iPhone 5.

Transferring contacts to a BlackBerry device

Transferring content to your new BlackBerry 10 is easy.

Moving your contacts, pictures, video, apps and more from your old smartphone to your new BlackBerry 10 device can be fast and hassle-free, especially if you already have a BlackBerry ID.
Before you get started, download BlackBerry Link then view the sections below on how to transfer your information from a BlackBerry, iPhone or Android device.

Transferring contacts, files and media from a BlackBerry device.

1. Download BlackBerry Link onto your computer. 
2. Connect your old device to your computer using a USB cable.
3. Follow the steps provided on the BlackBerry Link screen.

What will be transferred?

With BlackBerry Link, you can transfer information that was saved to the memory on your old device, including:

1. Contacts
2. Files (pictures, music, documents)
3. Calendar items
4. Tasks and Memos
5. BBM contacts
6. Browser bookmarks and folders
7. Alarm/clock settings
8. Text/SMS/MMS/PIN messages
9. Phone Call Logs
10. WLAN Profiles (for non-enterprise networks)
11. Password Keeper entries

If you have anything saved on your SIM card, such as address book contacts, make sure to save these things to your device memory or your media card first. That will ensure they get transferred during the device switch.

Switching devices using a media card

For BlackBerry smartphone users with BlackBerry 7 OS and later, you can switch devices using your media card.

1. On your old device, tap Search and type Device Switch in the field.
2. If you are running BlackBerry 7.0 or later, Setup will appear in the search results.
3. Click Setup > Device Switch > Using a Media Card > Save Data and select Continue.
4. When all of your content is saved to a backup file, remove the media card and insert it in your new BlackBerry 10 device.
5. When the screen shown on the left appears on your BlackBerry 10 device, type in your backup file password and items will begin to transfer to your new device.

Switching from an iPhone to a BlackBerry 10

Transferring your information from your iPhone to your new BlackBerry 10 device is simple and straightforward. Just follow the instructions below.

Transferring music

1. Sync your iPhone with iTunes on your computer.
2. Download BlackBerry Link and connect your BlackBerry 10 to your computer with a USB cable. Ensure you select iTunes as your BlackBerry Link music source.
3. Open BlackBerry Link, navigate to the Music content view, and then drag and drop music from the Desktop tab to the BlackBerry tab while your BlackBerry 10 is connected.

Transferring Pictures and Videos

1. Transfer photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer.
2. Download BlackBerry Link and connect your BlackBerry 10 to your computer with a USB cable. Ensure you select iTunes as your BlackBerry Link content source.
3. Open BlackBerry Link and click on the Desktop tab:
   • For Windows, navigate to your Pictures and Videos content views and add the folders that store your imported content.
   • For Mac users, BlackBerry Link sources the library content from your iTunes and iPhoto applications. Ensure your imported content is included in your iPhoto and iTunes libraries.
4.  From your Desktop tab, navigate to your Pictures  and Videos content view. Drag and drop the  imported content to your BlackBerry tab while your BlackBerry 10 is connected.

Setting Up Email, Calendar and Contacts

• On your new BlackBerry 10 device, go to Settings, and click on Accounts.
• Click Add Account, and enter your email address and password.
• Your email, calendar, and contact from this account will now start to transfer to your BlackBerry 10.

Note: For calendar items and contacts that are stored in your iPhone memory, search for how to synchronise them with an email account, such as Windows Live, Hotmail, Gmail, or Yahoo!. When they've synchronised with your email account, add that email account to your BlackBerry 10 and everything will be transferred.

Switching from an Android Device (Galaxy, Droid, Nexus, etc) to a BlackBerry 10

Transferring information from your Android device to your new BlackBerry 10 is simple and straightforward. Just follow the instructions below.

Transferring Files (including Music) 

For Windows Users

You can drag and drop files from your Android device to your BlackBerry 10:

• Connect both your Android device and your BlackBerry 10 to your PC.
• Open Windows Explorer by clicking Start > Accessories > Windows Explorer.
• Drag and drop files between the two devices.

For Mac Users

You can drag and drop from your Android device to your BlackBerry 10:

• Connect your BlackBerry 10 to your Mac.
• Download BlackBerry Link when prompted. If you're not prompted, download it.
• When BlackBerry Link is installed, you should see two new icons on your desktop: Media and Removable_SDCARD.
• Click on your Android device and drag and drop files into the Media and Removable_SDCARDfolders on your desktop.

Note: If you don't see these folders, open Finder. Your BlackBerry 10 device will appear as IP address 169.254.X.X. Drag files from your Android device to the folders in IP address 169.254.X.X (which is what your BlackBerry 10 is called in Finder).

Setting Up Email, Calendar and Contacts

• On your new BlackBerry 10 device, go to Settings, and click on Accounts.
• Click Add Account, and enter your email address and password.
• Your email, calendar, and contact from this account will now start to transfer to your BlackBerry 10.

Note: For calendar items and contacts that are stored in your Android memory, search for how to synchronise them with your Gmail account. When they've synchronised with your email account, add that email account to your BlackBerry 10 and everything will be transferred.

Transferring contacts to your Android device

1. On your old phone, ensure your contacts are copied to your SIM card or Memory Card.
2. On your Android handset, navigate to your Contacts application.
3. Tap the Menu key.
4. Select Manage contacts and/or Import/Export.
5. Choose from available options (Import from storage, Import from SD card, Import from SIM card).
6. Choose where to save contacts to (e.g. sync with email account or save to phone).
7. Import will then begin automatically and will display how many contacts have been completed.

Transferring contacts to your Windows device

1. On your old phone, ensure your contacts are copied to your SIM card.
2. On Start, swipe across and tap People.
3. Tap the menu button (3 dots) and then tap Settings.
4. Tap Import SIM contacts.
5. Once the contacts come in, the button will be dimmed.
